Lancaster Farmers Assn.
welcomes public to tour farms
LANCASTER The Lancaster
Farmers’ Association is once
again sponsoring its annual farm
open house today and tomorrow
from Ip.m. to 5 p.m.
Eight farms in the Manheim,
Mountville, Millersville and New
Holland area will be open the
public in order to give city and
farm neighbors a chance to visit
their operations.
Participating farms will be
marked with a “Farm Tour” sign.
They include:
1. Ray Geissinger Family - 50
dairy cows, 3 rabbits, New
Holland. South on Bummer Avenue
(becomes New Holland Road). 1
mile left on Eastern School Road.
Ist farm left.
2. Glenn Burkholder Family - 40
dairy cows, Indian Arrowhead
Collection. Prospect Road. Half
way between Rt. 462 and 999.
3. Herrs Fruit Farm - Haynde of
orchards, cold storage, cider
making, apple grading apples,
peaches pumpkins, pears, rasp
Berks kicks off Farm-City week
READING Berks County
Agriculture went to the city Nov. 16
as several county agricultural
organizations gathered in
Reading’s Penn Square to kick-off
the annual Farm-City Week.
During the kick-off celebration
dairy, beef and hogs were exhibit
to the public. A milking contest
involved three county com
missioners, and other prominent

Manheim. Through Elstonviile.

8. Mount Hope Vineyards - 10
acres of grapes, wine cellar. Along
Rt. 72,5 miles north of Manheim on
right.
officials and businessmen. Other
contests included guessing the
weight of a steer and diapering a
pig. The public was invited to
participate in a ice cream and
apple dumpling eating contests.
Other activities scheduled
during Farm-City week included
hosting businessmen to breakfasts
at several area farms and the
annual farm tours scheduled for
