    KANSAS CITY ,'Mo. - At the
101st annual meeting of the
American Hereford Association
held recently in Kansas City, Jack
Vanier, Brookville, Ks., was
elected to serve as president of the
organization for the coming year.
Vanier has served the past year as
senior vice president and succeeds
John R. Howartb, Cleveland, Ms.,
as president.
Vanier is owner-manager of the
CK Ranch in central Kansas, a
firm which is nearing 50 years in
the registered Hereford business.
They also have interests in several
commercial Hereford operations.
The CK herd was one of die first
herds enrolled in the Total Per
formance Records program of the
AHA.
Vanier has served as a former
president of the Kansas Livestock
Association and has been active in
the National Cattlemen’s
Association and the UJS. Meat
Export Federation. He has been a
member of the board of directors
of the American Hereford
Association since 1978.

He is a graduate of Texas A&M
University and has served as
president of the Hill Country and
Texas Hereford Associations.
Grote was re-elected to his second
three-year term on the AHA board
during the annual meeting.
John Venhuizen, Manhattan,
Mt., was newly elected to serve on
the nine-member governing board
of the American Hereford
Association. He succeeds David
Largent, Wilsall, Mt., who has
served the past six years as an
AHA board member.
Venhuizen is a native of
Manhattan and has fanned and
raised cattle there during his
entire lifetime. He established his
registered Hereford herd in 1960,
which numbers more than -100
cows. He is also a leading producer
of certified seed potatoes and has
served as president and secretary
of the Park-Gallatin Hereford
Association and as a director of the
Montana Hereford Association. He
is also active and a member of the
Montana Stockgrowers

Association and the National
Cattlemen’s Association.
John and wife, Lee, who
serves as a member of the board of
directors of the American
Hereford Auxiliary, are the
parents of four children. Their two
sons are active in the registered
Hereford business in the
Manhattan area.
The Venhuizen herd has become
well known throughout the in
dustry for their top-performing
cattle. They have been per
formance tested through the
AHA’s TPR program for many
years and at the Midland Bull Test
Center for the past 17 years.
The American Hereford
Association annual meeting was
held during the American Royal
and other Hereford activities
which featured conventions of the
American Junior Hereford
Association, American Hereford
Auxiliary and the Register of Merit
Hereford show competition.
The American Hereford
Association was formed in 1881 in
Chicago and for 96 of the 102-year
history of the AHA the
headquarters have been located in
Kansas City.
