Bl2—Lancaster Fanning, Saturday, October 9,1982 WEST CHESTER Just a week after their win at the Big E in Massachusetts, the Pennsylvania 4-H livestock judging team from Chester County captured the Eastern U.S. 4-H Livestock Judging Contest high team award at the Virginia State Fair in Richmond. The team, consisting of Chester County 4-H members Nelson Beam, Elverson; Don Cairns, Sadsburyville, Eileen Fairbnairn, West Chester, and Bill MacCauley, Atglen, not only was high team overall but was high team in beef cattle and sheep judging and third high team in swine. Nine teams from as far west as Indiana and as far south as Georgia participated. Don Cairns, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Cairns, Angus breeders in Chester County, was high in dividual overall beating teammate Nelson Beam by one point in his reasons score and teammate Eileen Fairbairn who placed third overall by two points. The next closest team was the Virginia Team which was 34 points behind. Nelson Beam had another good day placing fourth in beef judging, and fifth in swine judging. Eileen ATTENTION! Husband Bill Buffington, is also an active Granger. He presently serves on the Executive Com mittee of the Pennsylvania State Grange and does custom farming. FFA plans workshop BUSHKILL The Pennsylvania Association of the Future Farmers of America will hold its first Eastern Pennsylvania FFA Leadership workshop this weekend. Two hundred FFA members and advisors from 35 chapters will join together Friday - Sunday for the biggest leadership conference Pennsylvania FFA has ever held.
