Kutil emphasizes that while new
technology is available, home
owners can still save substantially
on their home heating bills by
having their oil burners checked,
adjusted, and if necessary, up
dated.
According industry figures,
probably 80% of the oil burners in
the Northeast are obsolete.
Twenty-year-old oil heating
systems can be modernized
without switching energy sources
to gas, wood, or anything else. An
efficiency check of the burner or
an energy audit of the house, can
save tremendously on the fuel bill.
“Right now, natural gas is
cheaper than heating oil,” Kutil
says. “But with the increases in
natural gas prices that are coming,
together with the cost of con
version, home-owners need to
think seriously before converting
to gas. De-control of natural gas is
coming rapidly. This will allow the
price to go up substantially.
Recently, a number of utilities
have announced increases.”
