Update on the poultry industry

mineral-electrolyte supplement
may also help her. If this is fed
through the water proportioner
make sure it is calibrated.
Molting two or more large
primary wing feathers from one or
both wings means she is lying 10 to
20 percent below normal and she
may be laying too many thin
shelled eggs.
Eyes not bright and clear with
droopy or elongated lids means
toxic gas coming from old wet
manure.
Face and beak showing
yellowish color means she is
reabsorbing yolk pigments as her
yolk sacs degenerate and she is
going out of egg production.
White lesions inside the mouth
means vitamin A deficiency due to
capillaria worms, mycotoxin
poisoning or some other disorder.
s Drainage from the nostrils,
mouth or eyes means congestion
like found in some respiratory
infections k — take these birds to the
lab.
✓ Pinch the abdominal flesh
lightly between the fingers. If the
fat under the skin holds the fingers
apart one inch or more than the
layer is too fat and must be placed
on a weight reduction program
under the care of a nutritionist. An
obsese abdomen with hard fat will
prevent egg production.
✓ A fleshy protuberance on the
beak means a dirty or poor
debeaking job. Debeaking is a type
