A22—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, October 2,1982 Fisher shows champ steer at Readin READING - A light heavyweight Angus crossbred steer took honors at this year’s Reading Fair. The steer, shown by Kirk Fisher, Oley, weighed in at 1168 pounds. Fisher, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Steve Fisher, is fifteen years old and a tenth grade student at Oley Valley High School. Reserve Grand Champion was a middle weight shown by Greg Zook, also of Oley. Fisher’s steer was named champion at the Oley Valley Community Fair earlier in September and placed second at York. Strieker’s Duroc gilt claims champion banner By Laurel Schaeffer READING A Duroc gilt en tered in the medium-heavyweight class at the Reading Fair Market Hog Show captured Grand Champion honors for her exhibitor, Greg Strieker, Bernville. The fourteen-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Strieker, Greg also captured the champion pen of hogs and sow with litter competitions. Greg has been actively showing hogs and steers in 4-H for the past six years. He is a ninth grade student at Hamburg Area High School and presently a member of the FFA chapter there. Reserve champion honors went to Mark Rohrbach, Shoemaker sville, a twelfth grade student at Hamburg who showed a Durco- Landrace crossbred gilt. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Heffner, Jim captured champion honors in the market lamb show with a 118-pound lamb from the light-heavyweight class after taking champion fitting honors and placing second in his age group in the showmanship classes. Competing with their older brother and also taking honors home were Joyce and Glenn Heffner. Joyce captured light weight market lamb honors with a 1. Kirk Fisher, Oley, grand champion; 2. Gavui Grim, Mertztown was named Champion Fitter after competing m the 8-11 age group. First-place intermediate fitter was Kenianne Kanck and first-place senior fitter went to Andrew Hess.
