NEW ORLEANS, La. - Grant F.
Walton, a New Brunswick, New
Jersey, educator and scientist,
recently received the Soil Con
servation Society of America’s
Honor Award for 1982.
Society President Robert C.
Baum of Salem, Oregon, presented
the award to Walton at a banquet
concluding the organization’s 37th
annual meeting last month.

Walton was honored for his out
standing contributions to son and
water conservation and land use
planning through his roles as an
educator, administrator, and
researcher.
Walton has been dean of Cook
College at Rutgers University
since 1975, and has also served as
director of the New Jersey
Agricultural .Experiment Station
at the university. From 1972 to
1974, Walton was director of the
Division of Environmental Quality

from 1959 to 1962, executive
director of the New Jersey State
Soil Conservation Committee.
Walton is a member of Alpha
Zeta and a Henry Rutgers Scholar.
He completed his B.S. in 1955 from
Rutgers and a Pb.D. in Soils from
Rutgers in 1972.

ALUENTOWN Four members
of the - £win Valley FFA earned
blue ribbbns with their entries at
the Allentown Fair. In FFA dairy
cattle competition, Chris Coblentz
earned a first place blue ribbon
with his Ayrshire intermediate
calf-PennWood Bozo’s Muffin.
Muffin also named the FFA Grand
Champion Ayrshire. Mike Kline
showed his Brown Swiss junior two
year old to a first-place finish and
FFA Senior Champion Brown
Swiss Honors.

Group gets blues
PARK CITY
Mark Zerr earned four awards
with vegetables from his garden -
first place parsley, second place
large red tomatoes, third place
patty pan squash, and fourth sweet
bell peppers.
Bill Kirk received a first place
award for his alfalfa grass mixed
hay. Finally the chapter window
exhibit earned fourth place. The
display is entitled “Backyard
Wilderness,’’ and encourages
diversity in home landscape to
provide homes for wildlife.
