A26—Lancaster Fanning, Saturday, September 25,1982 Burket’s aged Holstein BY JOYCE BUPP Staff Correspondent HARRISBURG - Burket Falls Elevation Sophia wrapped up a triple hit season Monday when she took the state 4-H Holstein Senior and Grand championship for her breeder-owner John Burket of East Freedom Blair County. The EX-92 Polled Holstein daughter of Elevation gave birth just two days before show to a pair of twins, a bull and a heifer, after earlier wrapping up a lactation record of more than 29,000 pounds milk with a 4.3 percent test. And, she made thpt outstanding record after a set of bull twins calved out last year. Burket’s eight-year-old winner was bred by him from another 4-H project animal. She also has an Excellent Shalimar Magnet daughter in the David Burket polled Holstein family herd. Pulled into the Reserve Senior and Grand Champion spot by Ontario judge Bertram Stewart was Terry Branstetter, Jr,, of Tyrone. The three year old by Milu Betty was a four-year-old Sunnyside Standout daughter shown by Stan Wensel. Just ten days before, the heifer won similar Junior honors at the state Holstein show in Meadville. Jackie Sparling’s senior yearling by Sterk Ivy Telstar topped her age class and was then selected Reserve Junior Champion from an estimated ISO calf and yearling heifer entries.
