LAMPETER The Hess
brothers of R 1 Conestoga wanted to
make sure officials at the Lam
peter Fair knew they had par
ticipated in the steer competition
Wednesday night, so they each
took a championship title home
with them.
Brian Hess. and “Chunky," together earned the title of
Grand Champion at the Lampeter steer show, Wednesday
night. Brian is the son of Abram and Janie Hess of Conestoga,
and Chunky is a 1230-pound Angus-Chianina.
LAMPETER Two years ago
Michelle Dean captured the grand
champion title of the steer com
petition at the annual Lampeter
Fair. Last year she did it again.
Now following tradition, she
again captured the title of grand
champion this year, but not in the
steer show. Instead, she secured
the award in the hog competition,
Wednesday, with her 240-pound
Duroc gilt. It’s interesting to note
here, however, that Michelle did
win at the steer competition,
taking the title of Reserve Grand
Champion.
The champion hog award marks
Michelle’s first Grand Champion
in her three years of showing in
PFA. The daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Bud Dean of Strasburg,
Michelle Dean, 16, of Strasburg earned her first Grand
Champion hog title during competition at the Lampeter Fair,
Wednesday. Her entry was a 240-pound Duroc gilt.
