of 50 Charolais cattle were paraded
in front of an anxious crowd here at
the West Virginia State Fair

for investigative action that UEP
has underway as to the scope and
role of foreign investment in
American egg production. The
directors reported that Congress
has mandated the use of some $l9O
million over the next three years to
aid American food exporters
to meet competition in markets
abroad. The UEP and it’s
regionals have pledged to work to
secure a fair share of this aid for
egg exports.
It was suggested UEP check
whether recent entry of Canadian
eggs into American markets
conforms with current trade
equalization rules governing trade

Jack Shuford, director of UEP’s
insurance service reported work is
underway to offer egg producers
added coverages that should
substantially cut their insurance
costs. Steve Kula, legislative
director of UEP in Washington,
told the group that gross of
membership in United Egg
Association, the industry’s
political action arm, is “ex
cellent.” He called attention to a
new UEP committee set up to deal
with such items as cash to accrual
accounting, and investment and
investment tax credits. It will
make report to UEP’s annual
meeting at Tampa Florida in
October.
