night.

Plus with an Index of 1538, brought
the top price of $3,600 of the 41 head
in the sale, which has been brought
back by the Lancaster County
Holstein Club after an absence of a
Dairymen,
investment to former members
BALTIMORE, Md. Dairymen,
Inc. members who held equity in
Maryland Cooperative Milk
Producers have been given the
opportunity to reinvest that equity.
Equity that is due for redemp
tion on September 1, 1982 can be
reinvested in the Member Equity
Reinvestment Program. Those
who choose to participate will
receive an interest rate of 15.5
percent or the Louisville Bank for
Cooperatives Term Rate,
whichever is higher. Interest will
be paid annually.
Maryland Cooperative Milk
Producers became the Middle
Atlantic Division of the Louisville
based cooperative on September 1,
1982.

Conestoga Classic averages $1,875

Peach Bottom,, Madeline was
purchased by D. Lamar Witmer, of
Manheim, under whose presidency
the county sale has been revived
by the Holstein Club.
The sale, held on the first chilly,
rainy night in quite a spell, was
staged under the large pole barn on
the Lampeter Fairgrounds and
attracted a large crowd of several
hundred onlookers. Sale chairman

Already more than 25 percent of
the division’s dairy farmer
members have chosen to reinvest
in MERP more than $50,000 of their
1969-70 certificates of equity which
are eligible for cash redemption on
September 1, 1982. Division
Manager Ralph Strock is pleased
with the interest expressed as it
represents confidence in and
commitment to Dairymen.
Investment programs such as
MERP allow Dairymen to plan for
the future of the dairy industry by
undertaking such projects as the
introduction of UHT long shelf life
milk in this country. Dairymen’s
new UHT plant is Savannah, GA is
now in production and plans are
that the new milk will be available
in this area in 1983.
