hand to explain the value of forage
testing and to demonstrate the
department’s mobile infra-red
forage analyzer. Shenk urged the
group to use the available
technology to Qbtain information
readily on the nutritional value of
forages and then integrate that
knowledge into their management
to help them make money.

Neumann joins York
YORK Shannon M. Neumann
has been appointed to Fenn State’s
Cooperative Extension Service as
an Extension program assistant, in
York County where she is filling a
position made vacant by the
resignation of Neil Jon**.
Ms. Neumann who btgan her job
July 15, will help develop, conduct
and evaluate programs for youth
and adults in dairy management
and general agriculture.
A native of New Richland,
Minnesota, she is the daughter of
Otto and Delores Neumann. Ms.
Neumann is a recent graduate of
the University of Minnesota with a
bachelor of science degree in
animal science.

livestock judges in the crowd tried
their skills on two classes of
market steers and two classes of
breeding heifers. Official judge for
the day was Donald Sunday, York.
Winning the adult division was
David Seaman, State College, and
Dennis Flickinger, Gettysburg,
topped the youth division. In a
contest to correctly guess the
weight of Heffner’s three-year-old
Limousine bull, Ed Brown,
Charlestown, W. Va. guessed the
exact weight, 1910 pounds.
Extension staff
County Extension staff, Ms.
Neumann was a milker at Bruce
Larson’s Guernsey Dairy near
Claremont, Minnesota. She also
has served as assistant beef and
dairy superintendent at the
Minnesota State Fair.
While a student at the University
of Minnesota, she was a memeber
of the Intercollegiate Dairy
Judging Team, the College of
Agriculture Student Board, Block
and Bridle Club and the National
Agri-Marketing Association.
Ms. Neumann’s position is
funded by the York County Board
of Commissioners. Her office is
located at 112 Pleasant Acres
Road. York, PA 17402.
