MARTINSBURG - FFA
members from Blair, Bedford and
Fulton county chapters sold 95
hogs at their thirty-fifth annual
Tri-County FFA Market Swine
Show and Sale on July 12.
The 26 exhibitors took in a total
of $16,717.95. The average price
paid was (77.94.
The average weight of the hogs
was 226 pounds. Including the
champions, the total sale weight
was 21,450 pounds.
Sheila Biddle, R 1 Williamsburg,
owned the grand champion hog.
The 230 pound light-heavyweight
was purchased for (3.20 a pound by
Larry Weyandt and Sons, of the
Morrison Cove Livestock Market.
The reserve grand champion
hog, owned by Scott Hileman, R 2
Williamsburg, was bought by
Hatfield Packing. The 230-pound
light-heavyweight sold for $2.30 a
pound.
Rhodes Meat Market purchased
a light-heavyweight 235 pounder
for $1.85 a pound. The hog, owned
by Kevin Rhodes, of R 2 Mar
tinsburg, captured third place in
the show.
The fourth-place hog was owned
by Robert Bishop, R 2 William
sburg. Hatfield Packing bought the
240-pound medium-heavyweight
for $l.OO a pound.
A dozen buyers participated in
the sale. Firms that bought other
than the top sellers were Shaw
Brothers Packing Co., Russell
Kegg, Cunyville Agway, A.J.
Peachey Meat Market, Shen
Valley Meat Packers, Inc., Louis
Kline, Inc., and Gamer’s Meats.

in the annual event. They were

Ridge, Everett, Hollidaysburg,

Trophies were presented by
Agway Feed in Curryville and Ron
Bookhammer of Keystone Flour
and Feed.
Ezra Good, buyer for Hatfield
Packing Co., was the judge. The
sale at the Morrison Cove
Livestock Market was auc
tioneered by Dale Broadwater of
Grantsville, MD.
The 1982 show and sale was
sponsored by the Morrison Cove
Livestock Market, Martinsburg
Boosters Association and the area
FFA chapters.
