Caterpillar Plant.

The Avalong herd is an extremely high producing herd with a rolling
average of 19580 milk and 754 fat. There are 11 cows selling with over 20,000
milk.
Some ot the sires represented are Elevation (2), Poverty Hollow
Milestone (5), Paclamar Astronaut (3), Tiho Kit Builder (4), Creek Bluff
Elevation Lester (3), Hillaire Mon Fleet (4) - Sexation, Valiant, Marvex,
Jemim. There will be 5 head selling in calf to Ocean View Sexation, 7 to
Hillaire Mon Fleet, 4 to Milestone plus other top sires.
The freshening schedule of the herd will help during the base period with
20 head calving between May and September.

Merklale, NY, sale located at the farm,
.on Rt. #2B, 6'/z miles west of Delhi, 13
miles east of Oneonta, Delaware County.
“Meridale" is an historic farm, having
been one of New York’s most well-known
Jersey farms in the past century and upT
until the late 1930’5. At-one time-tire;
farm consisted of Over 3,000 acres with'
many sets of buildings. The present farm
comprises about 1,300 acres and most of
; the. buildings.
the property since 1949, developing "a ,
Holstein herd of over4oo head. Recently,
remodeling and renovation of many
buildings has begun. ' v
The present sale is show
case the work already completed and the
proceeds from the sale will be used to
further rejuvenate this historic old farm.
We were allowed to select from all age
groups in both registered and grade
cattle to insure a high quality sale of
uniformly good cattle.
150 registered & high grade Holsteins Selling
will be 60 young cows, mostly fresh or due in
early fall, a good group of bred heifers and a
cross section of open heifers and calves. Most
of the Ist calf heifers calve between 22 and 26'
months of age with excellent size and good
quality, (registered cows-35; grade cows-25;
registered bred heifers-15, grade bred heifers
-20; registered open heifers-23; grade open
heifers-17;- registered calves-5; grade calves
-10) The herd is basically all sired by Eastern
A.I. sires, (Apache, Strephon, Grand Fortune,
Challenge, Ted, Lewie, Killian, Adventurer,.
Elstan), and has been on regular ELH.I.A. for
only 2 yrs. Already there are cows with records
in progress over 25,000 lbs. of milk.
The herd has been homebred for over
30 years. Record keeping is such that
nearly all the grade cattle may be identified. A
few top records from the herd: a registered
Halo bred heifer from an Earl dam making
25.000 milk this lactation. Lewie calf from
20.000 lb. dam. GrancTFortune heifer from a
Barrett dam, bred to Sleepy Hollow Mag Chief-
Red. See the new milking facilities, tie stall
barns, renovated croplands, etc. prior to the
sale. Enjoy free refreshments. Sale will start
promptly at 11:00 A.M. All cattle calfhood
vaccinated and interstate tested. If you want
milk - plan to be at Meridale on August 11th.
