The breakfast was the highlight of last week’s three-day Agricultural Teachers Professional/Techmcal Institute held in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Vocational Education Confernece at Penn State. Arthur Ives, National Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association vice president of Region VI presented the Outstanding Young Teacher award to Warwick High School’s Sonia Shaner. He also Conrad Weiser’s Donald McNutt with the Sound Off for Agriculture award and Lehigh County Vo-Tech’s Frederic SUllwagon with the Agribusiness Career Exploration award. The American Association of Teacher Educators in Agriculture issued Outstanding Publication awards to Penn State’s Connie Baggett and Anthony Mallilo in recognition of their 'meritorious contributions to the agricultural education profession.” James Mortenson was the recipient of the Outstanding Service award for the Eastern Region. The National Vocational Agricultural Teachers Association honored teachers and educators by presenting certificates in the following categories: Teacher of Teachers Award, presented to teachers having former students following in the profession - Ed Yoder, one; Ed Litweiler, William Erickson, and Ray Crilley, three each; William Shaffer and Thomas Hughes, five or more. The •‘Thirty Minute Club” award was presented to those who promoted vocational agriculture through the communications media, reaching beyond the state borders. Recipients of this award included; Samuel Curtis, James Diamond, Robert Martin, and Richard Stinson, all from Penn State’s agriculture education department. These teachers received certificates: Robert Leib, Cumberland Valley: Fred Stillwagon, Lehigh County Vo- Tech; and Stephen Miller, Conrad Weiser High School. The NVATA-sponsored “Ideas Unlimited” contest, designed for teachers to exchange classroom and shop ideas, was won by Edgar Ferry, Sehnsgrove High-School for the ‘Wyoming Anvil.” The remaining placmgs included: 1. Donald McNutt, Conrad Weiser High School: 3. Stephen Miller; and 4. Harold Berkheiser, Cedar Crest High School. In other recognitions, Bruce Lemmon received the Past Presidents plaque for his services as state president during 1980-81; James Fink, retired state supervisor of agricultural education, received an Out standing Service award. Teachers receiving 25-year awards included: Kenneth Thompson, Oxford Area High School; Kenneth Cherry, Holidaysburg Area High School; Raymond Cnlley, Northwestern High School; and Thomas Hughes, Derry Area High School. Lehigh County Vo-Tech received the state plaque for Outstanding Sales in the citrus promotion. Receiving watches for their 25 years of service to vocational agriculture were: from left, Kenneth Cherry, Holidaysburg Area High School; Thomas Hughes.
