across the slope to in
tercept water from the
watershed above and
carry it to a well
established outlet. A
diversion is a graded
mound of soil on the
lower side of a channel
with a pre-determined
height and grade. It can
be blended into the
terrain so that it may be
mowed and maintained.
A diversion is usually
constructed around
buildings to protect
from surface water and
in fields to reduce
erosion on steep slopes,
according to David T
Hoffman, soil con
servation technician
with the Chambersburg
office of the USDA Soil
Conservation Service.
