ITHACA, N.Y. - A Charolais
bull. Meadow View Paul, con
signed by Margaret Meckler,
Meadow View Farm, Frankfort,
topped the 1982 New York Bull Test
Sale last Fri.
The unofficial sale average for
the 38 bulls in the sale was $1,226.
The Meadow View bull, a son, of
LCR Royal Perfecto, was pur
chased by Bob and Mary Scott of
Hannibal for $2,300. The bull has a
frame score of 7, a final test weight
of 1,471 pounds and an average
daily gain of 4.18 pounds. The two
Charolais bulls in the sale average
$1,900 for the highest breed
average.
The second-highest selling bull
was an Angus, Cornell Franco C 321
consigned by Cornell University
and purchased at $2,000 by Central
Bridge Farm, John R. Van
derwerken of Central Bridge. The
bull, a son, of P.S. Franco 064-157,
had a frame score of 6, a final test
weight of 1,095 pounds and an
average daily gain of 3.57 pounds.
The 16 Angus bulls in the sale
averaged $1,139.
The top-selling Polled Hereford
bull was CHF M Banner 153 con
signed by Raymond Clark of
Clinton and purchased at $l,BOO by
Roland Wolford of Greene. The
bull an Enforcer grandson had a
frame score of 5, a final test weight
of 1,190 pounds and an average
daily gain of 3.65 pounds. The 12
Polled Herefords in the sale
averaged $1,206.
The top-selling Simmental bull
was Linden Achilles P.B. con
signed by Linden Farm of
LaGrangeville and was purchased
by James Lindsey of Rexford for
$l,BOO. The bull, a son of Lacombe
Achilles, had a frame score of 6, a
final test weight of 1,360 pounds,
and an average daily gain of 4.81
pounds. The five Simmental bulls
in the sale averaged $1,258.
The top-selling Shorthorn bull
was Stony Brook Image, consigned
by Stony Brook Farm of Locke and
purchased for $1,200 by William,
Shane and David Carpenter of
Shonowe Farm, Schenetady. The
bull, a son, of Stony Brook Brook
Bravo, had a frame score of 5, a
final test weight of 1,084 pounds
and an average daily of 3.94
pounds.
The single Chianina entry was
Kine ER 15 DSKA consigned by
Richard L. Hamme, Erie Rise
Farm, Fredonia and purchased by
George Hayes of Ulster, Pa. for
$1,250. The bull, a son of Iggio, had
a frame score of 7, a final weight of
1,206 pounds, and an average daily
gain of 4.03 pounds.
Sale chairman was Phil Taylor
of Lawtons and auctioneer was
“Red” Shaw.
The American Polled Hereford
Association recognized the New
York Bull Test program as an
official test for the Polled Hereford
bulls enrolled. Arnold Schonberg of
Cedarville Farms, Dion was given
a plaque for having the highest
performing Polled Hereford bull
on the test. The Schonberg bull, CF
One Spot 644 22 had a frame score
of six and an average daily gain of
3.99 pounds.
The Bull Test program and Sale
are jointly sponsored by the New
York Beef Cattlemen’s
Association, the New York State
Department of Agriculture and
Markets and the animal science
department at Cornell University.
The sale is managed by the New
York Beef Cattlemen’s
Association.
