UNIVERSITY PARK Penn State College of Agriculture royalty were found hard at work during the 65th Little International Livestock Show. Although a dairy girl at heart, Penny Smith, 1962 Ms. College of Agriculture, was seen in the sheep pens helping Block and Bridle Club members prepare for the show. As the show started, Penny was kept busy passing out ribbons in both rmgsat the same time. Penny, a dairy production major, from Mansfield, Tioga Co. was raised on a 750-acre dairy farm where her family milks about 50 registered Holstems. A 4-H member for eleven years, Penny received a trip to the 1979 National 4-H Congress as the Pennsylvania Achievement winner. Penny currently is a part-time leader in the Roseville Dairy Club in Tioga County. Also active in FFA, Penny held state office in 1979 and was named as Pennsylvania State Holstein Girl in 1980. Penny’s activities at Penn State include Penn State Dairy Princess, Secretary of Dairy Science Club, and reporter for Collegiate FFA. Penn State royalty pitch showed in “Little I” competition. Ted, a senior animal production major, from Trappe, Montgomery Co..is an active member of Block and Bridle Club. Ted was a “Ram Boy’’ in the sheep barns for two years, and then moved to the beef farms for 2 years. He also bas served as president of Block and Bridle Club, beef superintendent of “Little 1“ and was a member of the 1982 Livestock Judging Team that placed third at the national con test. Ted also was honored by receiving the Herman J Purdy scholarship in 1962. Ted was a 4-H member for seven years in both beef and swine projects and will continue his in volvement as coach of the Chester County 4-H livestock judging team this summer.' His long-term plans include owning his own beef cattle operation some day, and he is very emphatic in stating that “his place” will include Angus cattle that are. performance oriented. In order to be selected Mr. and Ms. College of Agriculture, Penny and Ted were nominated by their Ag clubs for the honor. They underwent interviews with several judges from which finalists were picked.
