WEEKLY 51-Cattle: Slaughter
steers at midweek closed 1.00 to
fully 1.50 higher, after losing some
of the early week advance.
Slaughter heifers 1.50 to fully 2.00
higher, instances 2.50 higher. Cows
closed midweek fully 1.00 higher,
slaughter bulls mostly 1.00 higher.
Receipts this week 10,000; last
week 7,900; year ago 13,900.
Prices advances in both carcass
beet and boxed beef trade late the
previous week and early this week,
coupled with advances on cattle
sold in local direct trading areas,
were primary factors tor the
strength m this week’s market,
although beef trade lost some of
early advance. Available supplies
of cattle ready tor slaughter in
local trade areas remain small
Uniform choice steers over 1150
lbs. and heifers over 1000 lbs
rather small at midweek.
