Mullendore Clerk: C.L Metz Lunch Rights Reserved Lancaster Farming, Saturday, March 6, 1982—D23 syivania continues to lead all states, in ttie number of hunters. The annual federal report shows that 1,272,763 individuals bought hunting licenses in the stale during the tederal 1960 fiscal year. Michigan had 957,209 paid hunting license holders, followed by Texas with 939,267.' Under Fish and Wildlife definitions, a paid license holder is one individual, regardless of the number of licenses he or sh£ may purchase. Only two other states had mure than 700,000 paid license holders. New York with 741,376, and Wisconsin, with 713,152. Pennsylvania’s non resident hunting license sales, tor the year totaled 96,762. Montana sold 126,612 nonresident hunting licenses, lags, pernuts, and stamps, while Colorado sold 111,661. In Montana and Colorado, as well as many other states, a single hunter may, purchase a number ot individual species licenses, tags, pemuts, etc., so .the nonresident license sales for many states other than Pennsylvania do not really indicate the actual number ot nonresident hunters atield, as Keystone State figures do. Ac tually, Montana Hums huntuig license sales to 17,000 nonresidents. Pennsylvaiua's hunt ing license sales returned |16,V27,92&.6( to the Game Com mission tor use ui ns wildlife management programs.
