The depth of quality in the 322-head show has never been equaled, making the annual Polled Hereford classic a premier event at the 1982 Dixie National Livestock Show. With some 3,000 people in at tendance Feb. 16-18 in Jackson, Miss., the winners were selected by. Dave Hawkins, Michigan State University, East Lansing; Joe Lewis, Alfalfa Lawn Farm, Lar ned, Kan.; and Bill Bennett, BB Cattle Co., Connell, wash. A pair of 2-year-olds headed the line up of 148 bulls, as the grand and reserve grand championships went to the senior champs. Graystone Granite, a May 1979 son of Gold Standard Sire Enforcer 107 H, took senior championship honors on his way to the grand champion bull title. He is owned by Graystone Farm, Schellsburg, Pa.; Glenkirk Farms, Maysville, Mo.; Marshall Farms, Port Byron, N.Y.; and B-L Syndicate, Asbestos, Que. Granite ranked among the tallest bulls in the show, as he and three other 2-year-olds measured 60.25 in. at the hips. Another Enforcer son, WP Enforcer Lad 100 L, advanced to the reserve grand championship from the senior champion slot. This April 1979 winner is owned by Palaschuk Farms Ltd., Wishart Sask., Sam Sells and Sons, Moultrie, Ga.; and Beck-Powell Polled Herefords, Linton, Ind. The maternal value in the female classes was also obvious, especially in the older classes, where all of the females were heavy springers or showed with calves at side. WFS Miss Charme 11M was the judges’ top selection from the 174-head female division, winning the senior and grand championships for Wooden Shoe Farms, Othello, Wash.; and Wasser and Winters Co., Inc., Toledo, Wash. The champion is a January 1980 daughter of Gold Standard Sire Charme Norden 10G and added the National cham pionship to a long list of prestigious show ring titles. The reserve grand champion female award went to Klondike Hawley 565 M, a half sister to the bull champions, sired by Enforcer. She took the junior and reserve championship awards for Klondike Farms Ltd., Douglas, Man.; Glenkirk Farms, Maysville, Mo.; and James Johnstone, Birch Hill, Sask. In the cow-calf division, National championship honors were awarded to BT Top Girl 169 L and her November 1981 calf by C&H Grand Slam. This duo won the title for C&H Farms, Sandersville, Ga. The reserve championship cow calf banner went to TL Polled Herefords, Osage City, Kan.; K.R. Whitmire, Redding, Calit.; and Cen-Cal Polled Herefords, Pleasant Grove, Calif. Pride & Joy, a September 1980 son of Will-Via Justa V, was named reserve calf champion bull. He is owned by G&R Polled Herefords, Marysville, Kan.; ACE Polled Herefords, Millbrook, N. Y.: and Donald Riff el and Family, Enterprise, Kan. HHH Miss Enforcer Ml stood second in class to the grand champion female and followed her up the ladder to reign as reserve senior champion. She won the award tor Triple H Ranch, Burlington, lowa, and her new co owners Comstock Cattle Co., Reno, Nev., and Sierra Polled Heretords, Grass Valley, Caht. Reserve junior champion WP Miss Enforcer 57M also stood second in a strong class, as she followed the reserve grand champion into the winner's circle as reserve junior champion. Gerald Palaschuk, Wishart, Sask., is the owner of this March 1980 winner. Both the reserve senior and reserve junior champion females were sired by Enforcer.
