Bruce Sellers of Chariton, lowa, won the Champion Professional Sheep Shearing honors at the In ternational Sheep Shearing Con test held at the National Western Stock Show. Sam' Haslem, Steamboat Springs, Colorado, and Howard Harper, Eaton, Colorado, were co-superintendents of the contest. According to Haslem and Harper, this is the' second time Sellers has won the title. Sellers has placed in the top five in years past. Winner of the Junior Contest was Mark Currie of Hmkley, Minnesota. According to Haslem and Harper, this is the seventh time the National Sheep Shearing Contest was held at Denver, Colorado, but the first time the contest received international billing. There were 39 contestants in the professional contest and 10 in the junior contest. Top award in the National Professional Contest is a “one of a kind ring, featuring a casting of a ram’s head with a Napoleonic Ram.” The ring is provided by Sunbeam Stewart Products Division, and was presented to Sellers by Gene Szymczak, General Manager of Sunbeam Stewart. Second place in the professional shearing contest went to Michael Crouch ot Elmwood, Illinois. Crouch is a former national champion. In addition to winning $35 from National Western, Crouch won $2OO compliments ul Sunbeam Stewart. Third place went lo Ernie Johnston of New South Wales, Australia. Johnston is the current Australian shearing champion. Johnston won $l5O provided by the Sunbeam Corporation, plus $25 from National Western. Fourth place wtmier was Gary Reinhart of Fargo, North Dakota, who won $lOO from Sunbeam, plus $2O from National Western.
