LEBANON In spite of the cold
weather experienced recently, 40
Lebanon County landusers braved
the elements to learn about soils.
Penn State’s Kobert Cun
ningham and Garland Lipscomb of
the Soil Conservation Service
explained to the group how the soil
survey was made and how the sods
report could be used.
The Lebanon County soils were
mapped from 1967 to 1974 by soil
scientists who walked over each
acre of land and determined its
depth, texture, stoniness, color,
slope and origin.
The soil survey data also in
dicates which soils are best suited
for on site sewerage disposal. In
Lebanon County, 1,838 acres, less
than 1 percent, have a slight
limitation for this use.
Charts showing crop yield,
woodland use, urban development
use and engineering data were
reviewed by Cunningham and
Lipscomb.
A 12-mmute slide presentation
called “How the Lebanon County
Soil Survey Was Made” is
available to interested groups. For
more information, contact the Soil
Conservation Service, Room 110,
Municipal Building, Lebanon, 272-
4618 for scheduling.
