U. of Md’s * College receives first Reynolds grant COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland’s Division of Agricultural and Life sciences is the first major land grant in stitution in a tobacco-producing state to receive a “no strings at tached" grant from R. J. Reynolds Industries Inc. The $5,000 discretionary grant is the - first in what Reynolds In- . V« ' l k \ dustries officials described as a program that very likely will be extended to other land grand universities in tobacco-producing states. According to Larry N. Van derhoef, provost of the Division of Agricultural and Life Sciences, the grant will be used to reward, in some fashion, faculty members who are outstanding m the areas of teaching, research, Extension and service. It is intended to be used in areas "unanticipated in the normal budget process, for quick response to emergency situations, and for enhancement of the Division’s agriculture programs,” said William B. James, agricultural research and development coor dinator for the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co.
