Joy oppose milk MOUNT JOY Mount Joy Farmers Co-op president Koy Alger announced Wednesday that his organization along with Lehigh Valley Farmers Co-op will oppose the upcoming state-wide milk referendum, which calls tor mandatory assessment on all milk produced. The generated revenues would then be channelled into promotion and advertising. "We’re not opposed to ad vertising,” said Alger. He pointed out that 99 percent ot Mount Joy members already contributes a refundable six cents per hun dredweight ot milk toward brand name advertising. "And, we can see the results," he noted. The co-op, along with Lehigh Valley Fanners Co-op and Inter- State MUk Producers Cooperative, are members ot Atlantic Processing Inc. API markets most ot the milk under the brand name, "Lehigh Valley Farms.” In ad dition, the Lehigh Valley label can be tomid on ice cream, yogurt and cottage cheese. Alger's remarks came durmg the co-op's annual meeting. Those producers turning in annual production totals ot more than one nullum pounds ot milk are included m the following list: Kisser Brothers, J. Lngle, Bob Greider and sons, Joe Wivell, Paul and Elvta Kreider, Kuy Bixler and sun, Harold Urager and suns, Tun Tyson, Jay JNissley, George Ungemach, 1. He island and sons, T. Stoner and sun and H Garber and sun. participate in 1982 programs. Farm owners and operators are required to report their oats acreage by Feb. 5 so thatyield and base acreage work can be com pleted on tune. The acreage reports should include the planted acreage and crop use such ashay, gram, grazing, etc., tor 1980 and 1981 crop years.
