scrj school m. 1 i'll children
nmgujg in age from three to five
years old.
Linda Hull is the home
economics teacher in charge of the
program, and she pointed out that
a big part of the program is the
practical experience in working
with children offered to the eight
high school students who help
every day m the nursery school.
She says, “It is hard work and they
are not used to having all that
responsibility, it helps them learn
to deal with young children.”
Many of the students are planning
careers in eary childhood
education or nursing, but one
student is taking this course to help
be a better mother.
At Hempfield the traditional
sewing and cooking courses taught
by the five-member staff have
been supplemented with some very
modem courses designed to offer
students skills which will be useful
to them now and when they are on
their own.
With the interest and enthusiasm
in the craft projects and clubs,
Hempfield will probably continue
to have students right at the top of
the class in traditional fair and
farm show categories.
But more importantly this
generation will carry on a tradition
o f fme needlework and creativity
which will enrich both the
students’ lives and others.
