Marketing agency promotes broader cooperation
WASHINGTON, D.C. - A
program to increase participation
in and understanding of
agricultural marketing programs
is being given added emphasis by
the U.S. Department of
Agriculture’s Agricultural
Marketing Service.

new thrust to create a better en
vironment . for discussion, un
derstanding and cooperation to the
mutual benefit of both agriculture
and the public.
To coordinate the agency
program, Thymian has named

announced that U.S. meat imports
for 1982 are estimated below the
level that would require restraints

supplies, imports of beef and
certain other meats should total
not more than 1,210 million

the president to restrict imports of
certain meats—primarily beef and
veal—if USDA estimates imports
of these meats will equal or exceed
110 percent of a stated level.
“Based on today’s estimate,
there Is no need to impose import
restrictions during the quarter
beginning Jan. 1,” Block said.

country and abroad affecting meat
imports strongly suggests there
will be no need for import
restrictions for the remainder of
the year.”
USDA makes a new estimate of
meat imports before each calendar
quarter. Subsequent estimates will
be made in March, June, and
September and announced on or
before the first day of each suc
ceeding month.
No import restrictions on meat
imports were imposed during 1980
or 1981. x The fourth quarterly
estimate of meat imports for 1961
was announced at 1,235 million
pounds. Final data on actual im
ports should be available soon.
