    LANCASTER Farmers
recently selected representatives
in their respective communities to
serve as committeemen for the
Lancaster County Agricultural
Stabilization and Conservation
Service during the ASC elections.
These community com
mitteemen are a vital link with
farmers. Them function is to in
form farmers about ASCS
programs, remind neighbors of
signups, referendums, and
deadlines,'u and assist in local
uoblem cases when requested.
The length of term for community
committeemen is one year.
The community committeemen
serve as a delegate to the county
convention to select the county
committee which serves a three
year term. Leßoy H. Welk, Route
4, Quarryville, was reelected to
serve another term on the three
member county committee. Paul
Kline, Brunnerville Road, Lititz,
and David H. McMichael, Route 6,
Lancaster, will continue to serve
their unexpired terms as chairman
and regular member respectively.
The County Committee is
responsible for administering the
assigned ASCS programs, and
forseeing that the day to day
operations are carried out ef
fectively, efficiently, and im
partially. Their task is similar to

marizing the comments until after
January 15, Munkittnck noted the
responses are coming from all
parts of the state.
‘l’m pleased with the number of
responses we have received so
far,” Muokittrick said, "but I
expect and welcome more. It’s not
too late to comment.” During a
review of earlier drafts, more than
2,700 people in the State responded.

greater portion of USDA dollars
and staff to critical soil and water
resource problem areas.
The program is the USDA
response to the Soil and Water
Resources Conservation Act of
1977 (RCA). SCS and the
Agricultural Stabilization and
Conservation Service offices
throughout the state have a supply
of the leaflet that summarizes the
program and that contains a pre
addressed, postage-paid response
form.
The offices also have a reference
copy of the full report of the
program and draft environmental
impact statement.
