Lancaster The Complete Herd
Dispersal of Falcon Flight Farms;
Litchfield, Conn., owned by the
late A. Austin Cheney was held at
the Guernsey Sales Pavilion,
Lancaster, Thursday, December
17. The sale, co-managed by The
Merryman Company and The
Pennsylvania Guernsey Breeders’
Association averaged $739.60 on
100 head. Sale animals went to
buyers from nine different states.
Topping" the sale at $2,250 was
Falcons Choice Elda, a 3-year-old
daughter of Kelloggs Minnies
Choice and out ot a dam with 15,729
pounds of milk and 710 pounds of
fat as a “Elda,” who
scored 79, finished her first lac
tation at 10,760 pounds ot milk and
468 pounds of fat.
She was purchased by Michael
T. and Linda M. Hart, new
Guernsey buyers., who are in the
process ot establishing a herd in
the Berwick area. The Harts also
purchased the second and fourth
high-selling animals ot the sale.
Second high was Falcons Paul
Pippin who scored 85 and recorded
12,754 pounds of milk and 568
pounds of fat as a 3-year-old.
“Pippin” sold for $2,200.
The fourth high-seller purchased

Choice daughter tops Falcon Flight dispersal
by the Harts was Falcons Fayvor
Ginger who scored 80 and recorded
1,074 pounds of milk and 35 pounds
of fat on 23 lactation days as a 2-
year-old. The Harts purchased the
Gmger cow tor $1,900.
Third high selling individual
went to Hugh S. Dunning, Walpole,
New Hampshire. Dunning pur
chased Falcons Talisman Birdie,
who classified 81 and is one of the
current foundation cows ut the
herd, for $2,000. Due in July to
Maurana Wis Telestar, she, is
currently projected to 19,257
pounds of milk and 706 pounds of
tat as a 6-year-old.
Top volume buyer ot the day was
Joseph C. Thompson, Smyrna,
New York, who purchased 14 head
for a total of $7055. -
The herd, founded by Dr. Ben
'jaimn Austin Cheney in 1914, was
built on a foundation of Bell-
Founder and May Rose blood, in
later years, a concentration of
Coronation-Green Meadow blood
was selected to carry on the herd
and breeding program.
In April, 1970, A. Austin Cheney
purchased the Pine Vista Guern
sey herd from the late Gilbert B.
Farrington. This additional herd
was the foundation of the present
day herd.
