* MEADVILLE The largest dairy county in northwestern Pennsylvania, Crawford, completed it. 57th year of DHIA testing this fall with 141 whole-year herds. In addition, 11 Owner-Sampler herds completed the 1981 testing year. The county's 7,012 cows on test averaged 14,651 pounds of milk and 540 pounds of fat with an average of 49.7 cows per herd. Queens Manor Holstems, Jamestown, led the county with averages of 21,582 pounds of milk and 876 pounds of fat. The Jamestown dairy also claimed the high producing cow during the 1981 testing year! Brookfield Matt Alda, a 7-year-old Holstein, finished with a 305 day record of 34,812 pounds of milk and 1,603 pounds of fat. Members of the Crawford County DHIA include. NAZARETH The Annual Northampton County joint DHIA- Holstem Association Banquet was held recently at. the Plainfield Township Fire Co. Hall. The largest attendance in 15 , years, over 200, was present. | Holstein Club President, Donald A Seipt presided over the ' meeting. Elwood Fox reported on the State Holstein Association Doug Hershey from the State Holstein Association spoke on what to expect for the upcoming year. Bruce Fox presented a slide show of all the events the Holstein Club held during the previous year. DHIA President, Timothy Merwarth called the DHIA meeting to order. County Agent, Gregory Solt, spoke about using DHIA records in managing your herd, and the need to understand what the records are telling you. The DHIA awards were given out by supervisors Robert Letson; Deborah Oewait and Denise Solt. They were as follows; High Fat Cow - Star Bright Holstems, Mmdi - 1,323 lbs.; High Milk Cow - Star Bright Holstems, Mmdi - 32,603 lbs., High Fat Herd - Keystone Farm - 808 lbs., High Milk Herd - Keystone Farm - 21,376 lbs.; High Milk 2-Yrd. Old - Paul F. Smith’s, 3 - 22,873 lbs., High Milk 10 Yr. & Over - Fabian & Son’s, Becky y 26,773 lbs.; Most Improved Herd - Harold Fabian & Son - 3,052 lbs., Lifetime Milk - John Valkovec’s, Valeria ■ 273.259 lbs. Awards were given to the FFA and 4-H Clubs by the Holstein Association. FFA Outstanding Scholar went to Gary Fehnel. FFA Outstanding Dairy Project went to Jennifer Bush. 4-H First Year Outstanding Dairy Member was a tie and went to Richard Welsh and Kim Mmmch. Other 4-H Awards went to Michelle Fulmer for First Out standing Dairy Member, Susan Fulmer for Second Out standing Dairy Member and Danielle Palmer for Third Out standing Dairy Member.
