Following a roast beef dinner that was served to the over 200 persons present, awards for out standing herds and individual cow records were presented. Recognized as high herd in the county was Noel and Holmes, Hanover with 20,458 pounds milk and 798 pounds fat on 56.5 cows. Second place went to Larry Deputy, East Berlin with 122. Recognized as the herd with the greatest increase in butterfat production was M.J. Starner & Sons, New Oxford, who increased their herd average by 141 pounds of fat on 107.1 cows. Top milk producing cow in the county for 305 days was “Ethel” owned by Leroy Deputy. She produced at 5-06 33,198 pounds of milk and 837 pounds of fat. Herd Improvement Association elected directors and re-organized at the 53rd annual meeting, held last Thur sday, at the Fireball in Hampton. High lifetime production for milk went to “Tess” owned by Penn Gate Farm, Littlestown with 194,802 pounds of milk in 12 lac tations. High lifetime award for fat production went to Piney Lane Guernseys for “Kitty” who produced 8,546 pounds of fat in 10 lactations. Figures revealed an increase in both milk and fat per cow by 551 pounds and 18 pounds respectively over 1980 figures. Also the value of the product above feed cost per cow increased by $77.36 over the previous year. While the average number of cows per herd in the state for 1980-1981 was 57.4, it was 70.5 in Adams County. (Turn to Page DIO)
