DPI funds research project

Delmarva Poultry Industry, Inc
has recently approved a $6,600
grant to the University of
Maryland to help fund a project on
broiler breeder research.
The co-investigators of the
project are Mary Ann Ottinger,
assistant professor of physiology
and Joseph H. Soares, Jr.,
p'rofessor of nutrition of
Maryland’s Department of Poultry
Science.
The project involves three ex

Because of the high cost and the
long length of time necessary to
conduct broiler breeder research
studies, there has been relative
ly little work done in this area.
Recognizing this need, DPI first
funded a broiler breeder research
project with these same Maryland
researchers in 1979. This new
project is designed to further
explore the feed and en
vironmental requirements of
breeding stock.
MSD Agvet, a division of Merck
& Co. is also participating in the
funding of this research.

ago at a meeting of the Asian
Development Bank with
representatives of the United
States, China, Japan, Korea, the
Philippines, Tailand and Vietnam.
Partial funding is provided by the
U.S. Agency for International
Development.
During an international con
sultative group meeting in mid-
November 1981 in Washington,
D.C., a Japanese delegation
strongly urged the World Bank to
consider funding the Taiwan
research center. The bank already
provides funding through a con
sortium of donors for 13 other
international agricultural
research centers around the world.
