    4-H’ers find excitement

The 1981 4-H beef sale average
for the 19 animals sold was 80.93
cents.
With no break in the action, the
lamb show began.
Vickie Holtry was the proud
owner of the Champion Market
Lamb and her cousin, Carolyn
Myers, stepped up beside her to be
award the Reserve Champion title.
Vickie’s lamb weighed in at 106
pounds to be sold to North
Mountain Butcher, Newville, at
$2.30. Laura Watts, Cumberland
County agent, remarked, “This
has been the highest round-up sale
price since 1975.”
Fred Potteiger, Carlisle, bought
the Reserve Champion Lunb for
$1.70 a pound. The Myer’s lamb
weighed 110 pounds.
Champion pair of Market Lambs
was exhibited by Joel Hocken
berry. The Country Butcher Shop
had their eye cm this pair and
bought them. Together the paired
weighed 185 lbs.
The Lamb Showmanship contest
was action packed as the 4-H’ers
had to man-handle many of the
high-spirited animals. c

The sale average lor the 1961
Roundup sale was 94.87, which
included the Champions, and 19
pairs of lambs.

chairperson of the Home
Economics Advisory Council,
followed by a talk by Rita Mar
berger, manager of Member
Services of the Tri-County Rural
Electric Cooperative, Inc. She
demonstrated making a tiny sled
from popsicle sticks for a
Christmas decoration and banded
out a booklet containing how-to
instructions for a Christmas
Bazaar.
Ms. Marberger also showed two
films, one on electrical safety, and
the other, accidents around the
home.
Orville Yoder, Bradford County
Extension agent, announced the 4-
H Building Fund that has begun in
memory of Linda Hulslander,
Bradford County home economist
who died unexpectedly last
August.
The afternoon speaker was
Dorothy Kinsman, who talked and
gave demonstrations on table and
home decoration for Thanksgiving
and Christmas. Arrangements
should be based on a design and a
plan of lines for visual movement

triangular designs with a variety
of containers.
“Use your imagination choosing
contaihers,” she told the group.
“Anything you can pick up or saw
off is usually appropriate.”
To demonstrate this she made a
Thanksgiving arrangement using
a loaf of bread as the container
filling it with an arrangement of
chrysanthemums accented with
strands of spaghetti.
Other arrangements were a
turkey made of a beet with
feathers, a Christmas green
arrangement with dried honesty
and apples, and others. “Look at
nature for ideas,” Kinsman con
cluded. “She can show you better
than anyone else."
Cathy Bakalar, Northeast
Regional nutritionist, adjourned
the meeting. The next Bradford
County Homemakers meeting is
planned for the spring.
