nat’l meats contest
YORK The York County 4-H
Meats Team represented Penn
sylvania at the National 4-H Meats
and Identification Contest held in
Kansas City, Missouri, on
November 12. Nineteen states
participated.
Mike Coons, York, was high
individual in the national contest in
Meat Identification. Mike had 297
poults out of a possible 300. This is
the third year that York County
members have earned this title.
Tammy Eisenhour, Weilsville, was
second with 294 points. The York
County Team placed second with
861 and Alabama with first with 873
points.
In the Pork Judging division,
Chris Shive, Seven Valleys, was
fifth with a score of 145 and the
high individual had 146 points out
of a possible 150. York’s team
% placed ninth with 364 points out of a
possible 450 and Wyoming was first

In the Retail Judging division,
York’s team was eleventh with 376
out of 450. Nebraska was first with
413.
In the Beef Judging division, the
team was third with 404 points.
Oklahoma was first with 410 points
out of a possible 450. When the total
judging areas were added to the
Meat Identification, the teams
ranked first, Virginia 2065; second
Alabama 2035; third Wyoming
2032; fourth Nebraska 2009; fifth
Illinois 2003; sixth Pennsylvania
1990.
The other team member was
Nancy Eisenhart, Thomasville.
The team was accompanied by
Ken Gentzler, Yorkco Meats, and
Anthony G. Dobrosky, county
agricultural agent. The other
coaches were Tim Beck, Seven
Valleys and Kathy Sunday, York.
