Grange, was re-elected to a second
2 year term as head of the 450,000
member rural organization An
dersen, a former dairy farmer
from Waterloo, NE was first
elected National Master in
November, 1979.
The National Grange elects

Flora.

seer; Kermit Richardson, Barre,
VT, Lecturer, R G Carter,
Elmendorf, TX, Ass’t Steward;
Mrs. Betty Wallace, Beloit, WI,
Lady Ass’t Steward, B. Franklin
Hayes, E. Rochester, NH,
Secretary, D. Vincent Andrews,
Sarasota, FL, Gatekeeper, Mrs
is reelected Nat’l
Fall} Wedding, Jacksonville, MO,
Ceres, and Mis. Dorothy Shores,
Augusta, ME, Pomona Delwm
Cross, Ktllduff, JA was re-elected
to a 4 year term on the National
Grange Executive Committee.
Recognizing that Congress and
the Administration will be taking a
new look at many important forms
of government assistance
programs, National Grange
delegates passed resolutions
urging Congress to take action to
reform and insure the future
Grange Master
solvency of the social security
system They called for legislation
to remove the earnings limitation
on social security retirement
benefits and said that any changes
in the retirement age be phased in
so that individuals nearing
retirement will be able to make
sound retirement plans 'Phe
National Grange also favors
legislation that would not only
safeguard the continuance of In
dividual Retirement Accounts
(IRA) but also increase the
maximum contribution allowed
The Grange also said that those
applying for government aide and
receiving benefits should be in
vestigated more fully. Qualified,
able-bodied applicants should be
required to work for benefits and
-merchants should be restricted to
accept food stamps m exchange for
only nutritional foods.
The farm leaders said that the
known fraud in the food stamp
program calls for strict food stamp
regulations.
