HONESDALE - The 1981 Wayne
County 4-H Achievement Night
was held on Friday, October 23 at
the Honesdale High School. Over
one hundred 4-H members, 4-H
leaders, parents and friends were
in attendance
Kathy Muller, R 1 Pleasant
Mount, was selected aa the 1981
Wayne County Outstanding 4-H
Girl
Kathy has been a 4-H member
for ten years and has been very
active in the Cold Springs 4-H Ag
Club She has served as president
of the club for four years, has
helped with club fund raising and
community service projects. She is
also active on the county level,
currently serving as president of
the Wayne County 4-H County
Council and has also held the office
of secretary of this group.
She has helped at the county
wide 4-H picnic, 4-H Achievement
night, has helped at work nights at
the Wayne County Fair and has
participated in 4-H promotional
events by helping to make radio
tapes.
Her 4-H projects during the past
ten years include: dairy, rabbits,
entomology, veterinary science
and horses.
Kathy has attended 4-H Capital
Days in Harrisburg, 4-H Local
Government Day, has shown her
Wayne’s top 4-H capon sells for $2.35 a pound
HONESDALE - The 1981 Wayne
County 4-H Capon Round-up was
held last Wednesday evening at the
Pleasant Valley Grange. Nearly
one hundred 4-H capon members,
parents, 4-H leaders and
Honesdale Rotary members at
tended this annual Round-up,
sponsored by the Honesdale
Rotary Club.
Mike Curtis, Rl, Waymart, and a
member of the Steene 4-H dub
exhibited the grand champion pair
of 4-H dressed capons. This pair of
capons tipped the scales at ten
pounds a piece and scored nineteen
points out of a possible twenty
points.
Pam Eisenhauer, from Lakeville
and the Ledgedale Community 4-H
Club exhibited the reserve grand
champion pair of dressed capons.
These capons weighed-m at 10V<
pounds and 9V« pounds and scored
nineteen points out of a possible
twenty points.
The results of the judging in each
age group was:
Beginners Division:
Blue nbbon group - Wesley
Buck, Starrucca 4-H Club; Matt
Swartz, Starrucca 4-H Club; and

Wayne 4-H’ers win awards
dairy projects at the District 4-H
Dairy Show and the State 4-H
Dairy Show and has participated in
State 4-H dairy judging com
petitions. Kathy was also a county
dairy winner in the 1981 National
Blue Forms Awards Program.
Kathy is the daughter of Mr. &
Mrs. Robert Muller, Sr., who also
served as 4-H leaders in ,the Cold
Springs 4-H Ag. Club.
Kathy is a 1980 graduate of the
Honesdale High School and is
currently attending secretarial
school.
Larry Crimi, Jr., R 3 Honesdale,
was selected as the 1981 Wayne
County Outstanding 4-H Boy.
Larry has been a 4-H member
for four years and is active in the
Cold Springs 4-H Ag Club. He is
currently serving as treasurer of
the club and is also a teen 4-H
leader. Larry has helped with club
fund-raising projects and com
munity service projects such as
the annual rabies clinic. Larry has
helped at the Wayne County Fair
and has helped to promote the 4-H
program in the county by par
ticipating in making radio tapes.
Larry also is a member of the
Wayne County 4-H Beef Club,
currently serving as president of
this 4-H club. He also has held the
office of treasurer.

James Edsall, Bethany 4-H Club.
Red nbbon group - Mike Marks,
Tn-Gal 4-H Club and Branko
Dickhut, TnGal 4-H Club.
White ribbon group - Tun Rhone,
Stamicca 4-H Club.
Champion in the Junior Division
was Melanie Buck, Starrucca 4-H
Club and Reserve Champion was
James Edsall, Bethany 4-H Club.
Middle Division

Eisenhauer, Ledgedale 4-H
Community Club and Steve Curtis,
Steene 4-H Club.
Red ribbon group - Tom Billard,
Countryside 4-H Club, Leanne
Rhone, Starrucca 4-H Club and Joe
Davis, Jr., Calkins 4-H Club.
County 4-H Livestock Judging
Team and has judged at local and
state 4-H events. He is a member of
the Wayne County 4-H Potato
Grading and Defect Identification
Team that has competed at the
Pennsylvania Farm Show for the
last three years
Larry has taken melons and
strawberries as other 4-H projects
and completed project work in the
Wayne County 4-H Tractor Club
Larry also was a participant in
the 1981 Wayne County Con
servation Camp.
Larry is the son of Mr. & Mrs.
Larry Crum, Sr., R 3 Honesdale,
who also served as 4-H leaders in
the Cold Springs 4-H Club and the
Wayne County 4-H Beef Club. He is
a 9th grade student at the Wayne
Highlands School.
Outstanding 4-H Club Awards
were presented to the Cold Springs
4-H Ag. Club as outstanding 4-H
agriculture club and to Bethany 4-
H Community Club as outstanding
4-H community club. Jackie Cook,
home economist, presented the
outstanding 4-H home economics
club award to the Aldenviile Baked
Potatoes 4-H Club.

4-H Community Glut). The Foley
Food Awards are presented an
nually to 4-H home economics
members that participate in a
special recipe competition at the
Wayne County Fair.
Tom Callahan, County Extension
agent, presented 4-H folders to 4-H
members that had submitted
outstanding project books.
Herb Jordan, Extension poultry
specialist at Penn State, judged the
4-H dressed capon show.
The highlight of the 4-H Capon
Round-up was the auction. Rev.
Norman Dunsmore, Honesdale
Rotary member, served as auc
tioneer.

Rutherford paid $2.35 a pound for
Mike Curtis’ grand Champion 4-H
Capon, and James Eastwood paid
$2.10 a pound for Pam
Eisenhauers’ reserve grand
champion 4-H capon.
