Area 2 turkey
season extended
HARRISBURG - The Penn
sylvania Game Commission has
extended the fall turkey hunting
season by one week in
Management Area No. 2. This
means that most of the state will
have a three-week season.
Management Area 2 is a Y
shaped part of the Commonwealth
embracing southcentral, nor
theastern and a large portion ot
northwestern Pennsylvania.
Originally, a two-week season was
scheduled tor Areas 2 and 3, with a
three-week season in Area 1.
Penn State appoints
vegetable specialist
UNIVERSITY PARK - Michael
D. Orzolek has been appointed to
Penn 'State’s Cooperative Ex
tension Service faculty as '
vegetable specialist.
Thomas B. King, Penn State
associate dean for extension,
points out that Orzolek is
responsible for statewide
production and management
programs for major processing
and wholesale vegetable crops. He
also is conducting research in
vegetable management
techniques.
A native of Watertown, New
York, he received a bachelor of
science degree in biology from

statewide today “and conclude on
November 21, except in extreme
western and southeastern sections,
where the season will close on
November 14.
Brood counts this year show an
increase in poult production in
Area 2, and district game
protectors report the best turkey
hunting will take place in south
central and northeastern parts ot
the state.
Turkey Management Areas 1, 2
and 3 are described on the chart.
Alliance College; master of
science degree in horticulture
from West Virginia University;
and doctor of philosophy degree in
horticulture from the University of
Maryland.
Prior to being named to the
College of Agriculture faculty,
Orzolek was an Extension
vegetable specialist and staff
scientist at the University of
Delaware; faculty research
assistant at the University of
Maryland; and biology instructor
at the Jefferson Community
College, Watertown, New York.
He is a member of the American
Society for Horticultural Sciences.
