Sellers accepts Lebanon Co, FWS president's post MYERSTOWN - The forty-first annual convention of the Lebanon County Society of Farm Women was held last Wednesday at the Tulpehockeri United Church of Christ. A crowd of about 200 members and guests filled the sanctuary for the business meeting and entertainment. Karen Sellers, R 4 Annville, was elected president during the session, stepping into - office from the first vice president’s chair. Society ll’s Karen is married to Kenneth Sellers, and together they operate one ot Lebanon County's top dairy farms. She succeeds Mrs. Mane Stemraetz who served as president for two years. Other officers elected were: Barbara Grumbine, Myerstown, first vice president, Society 2; Catherine Schott, R 7 Lebanon, second vice president, Society 16; Kylene Bender, R 2 Annville, secretary, Society 18; and Grace Saul, E 2 Myerstown, treasurer, Society 10. These women will serve a two-year term of office. DINGMAN’S FERRY - One hundred and fifty-five FFA members and advisors par ticipated in the Pa. S.E. Area Leadership Workshop at the Pocono Environmental Education Center, Dmgmans Ferry, October 10-12. The FFA members represented the following chapters: Lehigh County, Conrad Weiser, Kutztown, Hamburg,, Upper Bucks, Middle Bucks, East Montgomery, Western Montgomery, Twin Valley, Hamburg, Philadelphia and Elco. The Leadership and Personal Development Workshops included .Group Leadership Skills, Personal Communications Skills and Per sonal Pnde Skills. The members were divided into three groups and rotated through the workshops. Winners of the county needlework contest were an nounced. In the pieced-top category, first place went to Elva Martin; second place went to Blanche Wenger; and third place went to Luella Groff. Minerva Lentz won first price in the em broidered tops division, with Society #l’s entry placing second. Lentz also took first place with her apphqued top entry. Society #l7 won first place in the knotted tops contest and the baby quilt division. In a miscellaneous group, Luella Groff’s pillow took first place; a vest entered by Vera Fahnestock place second; and Edythe Kreamer’s pillow placed third. All in a special, non-state division, Mary Blouch took the top prize in an all-quilted counterpane category. Beulah Risser came in second. Lebanon County Dairy Princess Joanne Weidman and Grover Gouker of Lancaster presented, inspirational talks to the farm group in the afternoon session. SE FFA’ers leant skills at workshop The workshops were conducted by the Pennsylvania State FFA Association Officers and Maryland State FFA Association Officers. The State Officers from Penn sylvania were Doug Hershberger, Pres.; Glenn Wenger, V. Pres.; Jeff Stoltzfus, E. Region V. Pres.; Kent Heffner, Chaplin; Kevm Devine, Treasurer; Andrew Rill, V. Pres., S. Central Region and Mark Canon, Sentinel. The Maryland State FFA Officers were Cheryl Mallow, Pres.; Sue Flanigan, Secretary; Cindy Ross, V. Pres., Region 2; Ginny Apodoca, V. Pres. Region 4 and David Barnes, V. Pres. Region 7. Cherl 'Mallow, Maryland President, urged the members to allow themselves to be bitten by the "F.F.A. Bug”. Susie Barrett, National FFA Vice President, Eastern Region, from Vincent, Ohio, helped con duct the workshops and was the Keynote Speaker. Susie challenged the members to take advantage of the opportunities offered to them for seif development, and to set and pressure their goals. Other highlights of the workshop included the Ist and-2nd level FFA creed contests. The first level for first year students was won by Jennifer Balding, Phil.; 2. Ira Zmner, Phila.; 3. Ginger Semencar, E. Montgomery, and 4. Ron Nolt, Conrad Weiser. The second level for advanced FFA members were Brian Dietrich, Lehigh County, Ist and Lancaster Farming, Saturday, October 24,1981—817 Andrew Hess, Twin Valley, 2nd. Members from the different Chapters made up mixed teams for competition m volleyball, F.F.A. Quiz Bowl, and ASE, which- was solving and completing field Dairy QUARKYVILLE - The Ayr shire, Jersey, and Brown Swiss 4-H Dairy Club met at the home of Roy Shertzer, New Danville, on Monday, October 12 tor a Halloween Party. A dress-up contest was held with prizes given tor the various costumes. Plans for the Dairy Banquet exercises on the wooded trail. Other events included a wildlife forestry contest won by the Twin Valley Chapter, and a Saturday night squaredance. club meets were discussed, which will be held November 2- at Good & Plenty Restaurant. The cost for tickets will be $6.50 tor adults and $4.50 for children under 12. The next meeting will be held at the home ot Fred Esbenshade, K 2, Quarryville. Slides ot New Zealand will be shown.
