Coming out on top of the show and capturing the most attention from prospective buyers was Elmer, a three-quarter Limousin steer shown by fourteen-year-old Kenianne Rarick, Reading. Elmer had previously been named champion at the Reading and Oley Fairs this year, giving Kenianne her first taste of the limelight. The steer weighed 1,130 pounds and was sold to Vintage Sales Stables for $1.20 per pound. Kenianne is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ken Rarick and is presently attending the ninth grade in the Fleetwood School District. She also was successful in proving her own showmanship merits by placing first in in termediate showmanship and Michelle Harley, Oouglassville, sold her 1.095 pound era. ;ed. rants a pound, reserve grand cLnplon steer, Licorice, a Buyer was Mrs. Marvm Frantz, Ceopersburg. brings $1,356 second in intermediate fitting competition. Taking reserve champion honors with a steer named Licorice was thirteen-year-old Michelle Harley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Harley, Douglassville. Michelle’s steer also carried Limousin blood, being an Angus-Lunousm cross bred that weighed 1,095 pounds. This also was Michelle’s first experience in showing a champion. She is a ninth grade student at the Daniel Boone School District and has only been showing beef for the past two years. Michelle’s steer was sold to Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Frantz, Coopersburg for $.76 per pound. Both champions were mid dleweight steers Elmer being first place heavy-middleweight and Licorice being first place light middleweight. Twenty steers were shown during the show but one, shown by Jeff Adamski, was held back during the sale for exhibition during Farm Show. With the ad dition of two companion steers, the pounds at last week’s Berks Steer Show ai Sale. Buying the champion was Robert Crane for Vintage Sales Stables. number sold totaled twenty-one for an average of $.76 per pound or $.74 per pound without the champions.
