Better mend your broken windows now ... P.T. Barnum opened
"Greatest Show on Earth" in NYC Oct. 20, 1873 ... Last quarter of
the moon Oct. 19 (Sat.) ... Average length of days for the week, 10
hours, 44 minutes ... Daylight Saving Time ends Sunday, Oct. 25
(turn clocks back one hour before retiring Saturday night)... Only
in dreams does the happiness of the earth dwell.
Ask the Old Fanner: Years ago, my
parents owned a two-story, frame
cottage in the Adirondack Moun
tains. On the front of the house was
the main door leading into the living
room, and on the side was a door
leading into the dining room. The
'"C- ~ natives called this door the "funeral
door." Why? D.C, Buffalo.
Yup, a feature in many old houses the funeral or coffin door was wider
than other doors to allow space for the bearers. Folks didn't want to open
these doors except for a funeral.
Home Hints: Mint scattered around haunts drives away mice.
