OCT. 12-18, 1981
Colder growing, leaves are blowing.
Mice will want to come into your house now ... Robert E, Lee died
Oct. 12, 1870 ... Full moon Oct. 13 (Tues.) ... Average length of
days for the week, 11 hours, 4 minutes... Graf Zeppelin made first
transatlantic dirigible flight this week in 1928 ... the Old Farmer's
Almanac began this week in-1792 ... If not ruled by rudder, you will
be by the rock.
Ask the Old Fanner: I have read
that one can remove old tree stumps
by applying buttermilk to the
stumps. Can you tell me what the
procedure is and does it really
work 7 B.C, York, Pa.
We have had pickle juice, buttermilk, tobacco juice, and various other
things recommended forgetting rid of stumps, always by boring holes in
the stumps and pouring the fluids in. We believe that the plan calls for
keeping the auger holes filled with whatever is used. About it working, we
mistrust it will. Prayer will also work if you have plenty of patience.
Home Hints: A coat of self-polishing wax on workshop tools will keep them
free from rust and protect the cutting edges.
OLD FARMER'S WEATHER FORECASTS '
New England: Week begins cloudy and cool, then clearing; tem
peratures hot by weekend.
Greater New York-New Jersey: Pleasantly warm and clear most
of week; end partly cloudy with showers.
Middle Atlantic Coastal: Variable clouds and warming all week.
Piedmont & Southeast Coastal; Some showers at start; alternately
warm andcool temperatures; midweek is partly cloudy and warm,
then clearing
