Think
safety first
LANCASTER Farm work is
often a “round-the-clock”
situation. Long hours are a fact of
life on our farms. It’s always been
that way...and contmues to be.
It’s true for dairy farmers,
poultrymen, horsemen, grain
nurserymen, most
anyone involved in a farming
pursuit.
We’re moving into fall, har
vesting corn, plowing, disking and
planting wheat and barley, har
vesting soybeans. And every day
gets shorter, that is, the daylight
hours. The work gets longer.
When darkness falls, visibility
and thus the ability to spot and
avoid hazards are reduced. Hence,
a strong urging this time of year is
to practice “sundown safety.”
Farm vehicles should have good
lighting for safe operation at dusk
and mto the night, lights clean and
burned out bulbs replaced.
