TTMONIUM A 4-year-old cow,
which just five days earlier was
Reserve Grand Champion at the
Pennsylvania Championship Show
in Bloomsburg, crossed the state
line and captured Grand Champion
honors at the Maryland State
Holstein Show on Labor Day.
Ed-Em Princess Willow Maria
made the move to Maryland after
being purchased by Elesabeth
Ingalls Gillet of Mountain Brook
Farm, Taneytown, Md. The champ
was previously owned by Erie
County dairyman, Howard
Hammond, EH.
Ingalls’ Holstein, also the Senior
Champion, is sired by Willow-
Farm Rockman Ivanhoe and out of
Valley-Gate Astronaut Princess.
Roger and Jason Myers’ 3-year
old entry was Judge Richard
Keene’s choice for Reserve Grand
and Reserve Senior Champion.
The Westminster dairymen’s
Del-Myr Milu Kelly is sired by
Mila Betty Ivanhoe Chief and out
of Del-Myr Elevation Donna, a
previous Reserve Grand Cham
pion of the Maryland show.
With more than 25 animals
exhibited under their Kingstead
banner, including the Junior
Champion, the Kings of Damascus,
Md., were named Premier
Exhibitor at the all-day event.
The King’s Junior Champ,
Kingstead Rorae Suzie is an
Elevation daughter currently bred
to S-W-D Valiant.
Judge Keene, Gilbertsville,
N.Y., chose a senior yearling for
Reserve Junior Champion. Derr
Ultra Debbie, owned by Brian
Derr, Taneytown, Md., is a Quality
Ultimate daughter and due in May
to Bootmaker.
The Premier Breeder banner
will hang at Edward B. Lee’s
Hickory Green Farm, White Post,
Va. The Virginia breeder exhibited
more than 20 aniamis.
For the first time in the show’s
history the winning Maryland
State herd included all blue ribbon
winners. The annual event which
included 270 Holsteins from five
Gillet Holstein tops Maryland show
states and Canada closed out the
100th Annual Maryland State Fair.
