poultry at home, he says they

He added that some Hindus go to
the temple every day, but it’s more
common to go on Friday evening
for 15 minutes to l h hour. A person
is a member of the religion from
birth. Indra has experienced many
different religions in this country.
In India, Indra is a member of
the Indian Young Farmers, which
is operated by their cooperative
extension service. Young farmers
in the program are between 19 and
28 years old and they conduct
educational programs about
farming. The organizations m the
various Indian states often get
together for programs and Indra
said that while some organizations
have female members, his does
not.
Having learned about the IFYE
program through this youth
organization, Indra said he wanted
to come here to learn about
organizational implements and
other advancements in
agriculture. He said he found this
country “as expected”, with large

WASHINGDON, D.C. - A
computerized system for fast
retrieval of facts about pesticides
is expected to be in operation at
many terminal points in the United
States within three years.
Anson R. Bertrand, director of
science and education for the U.S.
Department of Agriculture, today
announced USDA is providing
$lOO,OOO to Purdue University,
Lafayette, Ind., for the initial
phase of the project. USDA and
Purdue will cooperate in setting up
the new system.
In the beginning, Bertrand said,
the project’s aim will be to provide
quick and reliable information
about the registration status of
pesticides being used throughout
the country. Later, more in
formation about pesticides will be
included.
Eventually, the system also will
help agricultural experts assess
farms and large equipment. His
first host families were m Illinois,
where he lived on gram and cattle
tarms.
He observed, "All farmers here
are big and hard working.”
At the Denlmgers, Indra is
having his first experience at
milking cows by machine, adding,
"1 really enjoyed it." He has
become so proficient at it that he
and Cindy have been able to get the
milking underway when Rodney
was delayed in harvestmg.-
He, too, expressed appreciation
at being in this county during
Achievement Day. *T really en
joyed seeing the projects,” he
stated.
Indra explained the educational
process in India as being ten plus
two plus three, meaning there are
ten years of education for
everyone, followed by two years of
intermediate school. Then there
can be three years of college,
followed by two years of study for
the Master’s Degree. He studied
biochemistry for five years.
Indra has observed that clothing
is less expensive in India than
here, and he pointed out that in
in works
various pesticides.
Bertrand said researchers and
other user groups now have no
completely reliable method for
keeping track of the many
pesticide registrations,
deregistrations, evaluations and
re-evaluations from either the
states or from the federal
government.
Plans are to establish the new
system in three phrases-planning
by USDA, Purdue and other
potential users, testing and im
plementation.
When put into full use, the
national pesticide computer in
formation system will be available
to users such as state departments
of agriculture, industry, state
researchers, Cooperative Ex
tension Services and federal
researchers.
Fanners and ranchers will be
able to use the system through the
land grant institutions.
India people dress differently m
different states. In ius area, men
wear a dhoti, which is a simple
white garment wrapped between
the legs, forming sort ot loose
trousers. Women wear a sari
(sareej which is a long straight
piece of cloth draped around the
body to form a long dress. He
added that his sisters wear caste
marks, beginning when they are 15
years old.
Most people marry at the age of
19, and he pointed out that they
choose their own mate, much as
Americans do.
