Cat nights begin now .... Labor Day Sept. 7 (M0n.)... Full moon
Sept. 13 (Sun!) ... Average length of days for the week, 12 hours,
42 minutes ... "Oh, Susanna" first sung Sept. 11, 1847 ... Galves
ton, Texas, destroyed by hurricane and 6,000 died Sept. 8, 1900 ...
Being unhappy in this season is almost like treason.
Ask the Old Fanner: While reading a
book recently I came across a list of
L articles that were sent by John Han
gs*. cock to his fiancee, Dorothy Quincy.
One item was listed as a pair of black
calem do. Do you have any idea what
ffp a "calem do" is? F.K., Salem, Mass.
It is generally known that John's penman
ship was of the best, but we wonder about
his spelling. In searching for the answer
to your question, we find, under very similar spelling, mat it could be: a
small bird like a quail, a small Turkish rug, or a pair of mitts gloves of
a sort which leave part or the whole of the fingers exposed. This is the best
we can do
