Youths attend functions of cooperatives. Secondarily, students are selected to attend the National Institute of Cooperative Education which, this year, will be held in Colorado. Of that initial group, 6 scholars attended in cluding Eileen Fairbairn, West Chester; Terry King, Nottingham; Leslie Schofield, Pottstown; Valerie Weaver and Bill Wylie, Nottingham; and Nancy Yaraall, Oxford. Rich Pelkofsky, a field representative with the West Chester branch of Southeast Farm Credit Service, was chaperon for the three-day conference. From the Bucks-Montgomery Council, Dean Maries, Hereford, John McGann, Maple Glen, Shannon McLaughlin, Oaks, and Tom Reynolds, of Churchville, attended. Throughout a series of meetings and activities, the students were being evaluated by Resource Leaders, the Institute staff, and other scholars on their leadership qualities and their participation in York pork to sponsor contest YORK The York County Pork Producers Association is once again going to sponsor a Pork-King Cookout Contest at the York In terstate Fair on September 19. The meat for the contest is scheduled to come off the gnll at 11 a.m. Contestants must be 18 years old and use York County Pork in their recipes which must include only name brand ingredients. Each contestant must use a gas grill which will be furnished or contestants may bring their own. The first place pork recipe receives $lOO and an all expense paid trip to the state finals. Eight student/scholars from Penn sylvania were chosen - four by the above mentioned persons and four by the Interstate Milk Producers Coop. Nancy Yarnall, a representative of the Chester- Delaware Council, who is very involved in 4-H, FFA & Grange activities and is this year’s Chester Co. Dairy Queen Alternate, was selected by Interstate to attend the N.I.C.E. Conference in Colorado. Eileen Fairbairn, also of the Chester-Dflaware Council, is an alternate. Eileen won first prize in the poster contest with a poster whose name theme and artwork depicted the cooperative spirit. First prize was awarded to another delegation member, Terry King, who was presented the top place finish in the talent show with his guitar/vocaT rendition of “Sun shine” by John Denver. producers place receives $7O; and $5O to third place and so forth. The York County .Pork Producers are also sponsoring a pen decoration contest for 4-H and PFA members who decorate their pens at the York Fair. They will also be selling pork sandwiches at the Peach Harvest Festival at McPherson Orchards, New Park, Labor Day weekend. They will also sponsor a hog carcass class at the York Fair. i
