Similar bus tours will also take visitors to a conservation research and demonstration area every half hour from 10:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. As with the other tours, these leave from the top of the midway and take about an hour. Conservation practices have been designed by the Soil Conservation Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, in cooperation with Pemi State personnel. Visitors to the Horticultural Research Farm may take a walking tour of a synoptic garden, presenting a synopsis or summary of popular flowers, vegetables, shrubs, and trees. This year’s synoptic garden will feature mulching materials on vegetables, comparing different mulches. Horticultural exhibits will also feature an All-America vegetable garden and solar greenhouses. In addition, visitors will be able to examine “lean-to” greenhouses designed for home use.
