York horse show opens park »«■ Jr <sr BY LAURIE DOBROSKY GLEN ROCK - About 100 York County 4-H horse and pony club members helped to open the new horse show ring at Spring Valley Park here on Saturday during their annual county roundup. Starting ott the day ot com petition were the classes in grooming and showmanship. Each member in the junior and senior divisions paraded before the judge and were scored on the apperance ot their animal and their showmanship ability. The senior division honors were captured by Linda Eberly ot the White Rose Club, riding her Paint “Remarkable Chance.” Linda, 15, who has only been riding horses for 3 years, recently acquired enough showmanship points to win the youth versatility award trom the National Paint Horse Association. m Another Paint came out on top in the junior showmanship division. “Precious”, owned by Wench Wolf of the Trailblazers Club, placed first over the 22 other contestants. Wendy, who is 14, has been showing horses tor a number of years, not only in 4-H shows but also in various Paint shows across the country. One of the most prestigious honors awarded at the county roundup is the Herman Galley Memorial Trophy, presented for the second year to the outstanding nders m the trail competition. The trophies are presented in memory ot Dr. Gailey, a judge and promoter ot the 4-H horse program in York County who died two years ago on the day he was to judge the trail class for the county roundup. In the under-13-hands division, Tricia White ot the Trailblazers club took first place with her horse "Buckwheat.” in the over-13- hands division, Kns Ritchey of the Wellsville club took the cham pionship on her horse, “Society’s Fink.” Greg Bailey was the judge for the trail class. Other judges tor the annual event included: Mrs. Helen Spedden, English; and Robert Spedden, Western. The three individuals judged as best in their respective classes will represent York County at District competition to be .held on Sep tember 12 at Lower Hopewell Horse Farm, Lancaster. The exception will be m pleasure pairs class and the county team-class which will have two and one en tries representing the county, respectively.
