PINE GKOVE - The 19«1 4-H Schuylkill County Dairy Hound-Up was held Saturday, August 1 at Jersey Acres, R 2, Pine Grove. Twenty-two county 4-H’ers participated in the show which was judged by Dave Douglass, herd sman, at Delaware Valley College. In the Guernsey breed com petition Carl D. Miller, R 3, Tamaqua, won the Grand Champion and Senior Champion awards with his cow, Bonnie. The Reserve Grand Champion and Junior Champion was awarded to Hyan Kahler, Pitman, and his junior call, Tina. Allen Daubert, R 2, Pine Grove, and his cow, Eileen, captured the Grand Champion and Senior Champion trophies tor the Brown Swiss breed. Daubert also showed the Reserve Junior Champion, a senior call named Ellen. Reserve Grand Champion and Reserve Senior Champion went to Rick Daubert and his senior two-year old, Lois. Although the Holstein class competition was very strong, Tracy Snyder, Pitman, managed to capture both the Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion awards with his tour year-old, Flu, the Senior Champion and his Junior two-year-old, Farrah, the Reserve Senior Champion. The Holstein Junior Champion award went to Mark Snyder, Pitman, tor his Junior Yearling, Prella. Mike Snyder, showed the Reserve Junior Champion, a senior call named Poppy. The stitt Jersey breed com petition saw Kent Hettner, R 2, Pine Grove, showing the Grand Champion and Senior Champion, a tour-year-old named April. Kelly Newswanger’s entry, an aged cow named Deei, took home the Reserve Grand Champion and Reserve Senior Champion ribbons. The Junior Champion , award ihuylkill County went to Bruce Rhein tut his Junior Yearling, Lovergirl. Karl Hettner showed the Reserve Junior Champion, an intermediate calt named Peaches. A special awaid was given to Kristin Hettnei, R 2, Pine Grove, tor submitting the winning 'drawing in the show book cover GAITHERSBURG, Md. - The Montgomery County tair will teature an Arabian Horse Show at the tairground near Gaithersburg on Sunday, August 23, trom 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The show will consist ot 45 classes 22 breeding classes and 23 pertormance classes (Western, English, Park, Trail, Equitation, Driving and Native Costumes ). Exhibitors are eligible tor Legion Merit Points, National RIDES Fair features Arabian horses design contest. Honorable mention awards went to Nelson Moyer, KJ., Schuylkill Haven, and to Karin Hettner, R 2, Pine Grove. The Senior Showmanship Trophy went to Kent Hettner while Karin Hettner captured the Junior Division award. Tracy Snydei Championship Classes and Blue Ridge High Point Awards. The following prize monies will be awarded tor the winner in each class: $750 for Purebred; $5OO tor Haltbred; and $3OO tor Junior Division. Contestants will also compete in special Costume Classes.
