EGGS
Friday, July 24
Market supplied by USDA
Prices are being lowered for
next week’s delivery on large and
mediums in most areas except the
West Coast where the undertone is
steady and in New England where
brown eggs are clearing
satisfactorily at unchanged prices
Inquiry for next is typically light
for the last week in the month. Nest
run eggs accumulated in the
Midwest and South during the
week and limited sales were at
sharply lower prices. Breaker
interest is spotty. Most plants have
sufficient inventories to operate
full tune. Offerings of light type
hens increased as egg prices
dropped.
NORTH ATLANTIC - The
market is weak and unsettled.
Cartoned egg movement is ligl" ■; to
fair. Inventories accumulated
despite spotty retail promotions.
Resort business and in some
quarters institutional business is
fairly good. Offerings of nest runs
increased during the week and
limited trading was at sharply
lower price levels. Breaker ac
tivity modest but steady.

and not having to worry about
excessive weight gains in the field.
An accumulation of undergrades
and some parts has been the result
in instances for a few suppliers.
Placements in the field for the
industry are fully adequate.
Market tone unsettled on hens,
steady to firm on toms. Inquiry
and trading for current and
deferred shipments very disap
pointing on the West Coast and
Midwest, spotty in the East.
Trading for July shipments cen
tered in the East on a light volume
of consumer classes at steady
prices and 24-26 lb. toms at un
changed to higher prices. Several
loads of fresh hens shipping from
the Midwest to the Northwest at
.68. Interest for deferred ship
ments in the East on several loads
of packer label broth-basted hens
and 16-24 lb. toms with prices to be
determined during Oct., with
shipments from the Midwest.
Offerings ample on fryer roasters,
ample to heavy on hens and light to
adequate on toms. Trade interest
centers on the school lunch release
and some concern noted with the
record July storage holdings and
the June poultry Hatchery.
Movement on parts centered in the
Midwest on wings at irregular
prices and drumsticks at firm
prices. Canner Pack trading
moderate in the Midwest, im
proved slightly in the East. Retail
promotions very light, centering
mostly on turkey parts
